Unlock more hero slots in Legend of Defenders
In Legend of Defenders, open the book-shaped quest button in the lower-left corner when a hero slot will not open. Complete the task you actually have and collect completed rewards before checking deployment again. A higher castle level or a visible doorway does not by itself prove that the required quest is finished.

Start with the book, not another castle upgrade
- Open the lower-left book and read the current quest requirement.
- Complete that requirement. If a completed task is waiting to be collected, collect it and check the next task.
- Return to deployment and check whether the required slot is now available.
The developer gave this route to a player whose third slot was still locked at castle level 40, and to players stuck with four heroes at levels 70 or 90. Those reports support a quest check; they do not establish one universal level-to-slot table.
Captain and gem slots: check the same unfinished progression
A player at castle level 200 could not place a captain. After the player explained that their quests had reached a fifth treasure, the developer said their next task would unlock the captain slot. That “next task” describes that player's progress, not a fixed task number for every save.
In a separate gem discussion, a player with a castle near level 600 found uncollected quests after asking why captains and gems were unusable. Do not use another reply's guessed level 180–200 threshold as a reliable requirement.
What changed on November 3?
The November 3 update makes completed short-term missions expand automatically. You may therefore see a smoother task sequence than an older recording shows. The update does not publish an all-level slot table or say that castle upgrades replace the task requirements.
If a task asks for a first treasure, use the treasure purchase check. If the problem is specifically the last Treasure Altar slot after Demon Tower level 5, use the last treasure-slot check.
Check the result
The useful result is that the appropriate unit can use its slot. A changed castle number or an empty doorway is not enough. If the task is complete and collected but the slot remains locked, keep the current quest text, slot type and game version when reporting the problem in Steam Discussions. The book route is a progression check, not a promised repair for every deployment bug.
